I don't usually blog about movies I've seen but this exceptional film was so intelligent and moving that I thought I'd mention it. It combines the poetic and the horrific; the ultimate story of the end of innocence, the end of childhood...themes that interest me. Understated, odd moments of dark humour, a different take on the usual Holocaust theme. I was mesmerised. A few images will stay with me forever, particularly Gyorgy's farewell to his father and rows of prisoners swaying and lurching with fatigue like a sort of hellish ballet when ordered to stand for 24 hours. See this movie.

photographs in current exhibit

These four seemed right together. Two very direct portraits and two slightly abstract.

notebooks in current exhibit

These two seemed to work together fairly well. Both are from a warm American summer of bare feet, familiar faces and the nagging melancholy of distance.
