i am agonising over these images. one is a cleaner, more 'polite' image produced digitally. the other (detail) is a darker, stranger version produced in the darkroom, showing some chemical deterioration. instinctively, i prefer the lighter version --redder lips, gentler light--but the darker version--complete with the chemical 'noise' is the accurate one so--even against my own preferences--i guess that one wins. if an unpredictable chemical process and analogue printing is what i claim to do, i can't tweak the process to make something more attractive when it suits me.
